ConcealedSynopsis:

“Can you be happy when what you desire most means your doom?”

Evelyn Lakewood, an orphan, is crushed after the death of her beloved sister Zara. But the nineteen-year old enrolls in Psychology at Oxford in honor of Zara.

There, Evelyn first becomes friends with vivacious Sally and seemingly charming Felix. But the encounter with Jared Calmburry, whose incredibly blue eyes immediately captivate her, fundamentally changes her life. She is instantly drawn to this mysterious stranger around whom unusual things happen and who simply disappears every time Evelyn tries to confront him about his puzzling behavior. After finding a mysterious book with a unique symbol on its leather cover in the university library, her curiosity is perked. She doesn’t know what to make of it but Jared’s best friend Colin Sullivan encourages her with cryptic hints to continue her search for evidence. When she discovers the same medieval symbol is worn by hostile professor Karen Mayflower and engraved on another faculty member’s seal ring, she realizes that an ancient secret surrounds Jared.

My Review
I was given a copy of this novel in return for an honest review.
So, I was a little blown away to find out that this is Sarah Kleck’s debut novel. The amount of research, plotting, character development, and just overall genius it took to create this story seems like something a seasoned author would create.
Mind you, I’m a sucker for a secret society novel. There’s something about finding those little secrets, the little plot twists, and even those red herrings authors love to leave hiding within the pages. Sarah Kleck did an excellent job keeping me on the edge of my seat. I constantly wondered what would happen next…and that cliffhanger! Gah! I hate cliffhangers. Not going to lie. But only because they leave me clawing for more!
This novel was very clean as far as sexually. I probably should have realized that since it’s labeled YA, but still…I kept rooting for Jared and Evelyn to get busy. I mean…they are in college lol. But Sarah does a pretty good job at keeping that sort of sexual tension alive, making you want them to take that next step but leaving the characters very frustrated. Poor Jared.
The plot is very original. To me, at least. There are pretty cliche points in the story, but that is kind of unavoidable sometimes. Other times I would think the characters were really heavy on the the ‘cheese’ factor (oh you know…that sappy romance stuff that makes you simultaneous wanna squeal in happiness and hurl because it doesn’t ever happen like that in real life).
But overall, I really enjoyed this novel. It was original, the characters were extremely well developed, and it left me wanting more. I finished it quickly because I needed to know!
Well done, Sarah Kleck. You’ve hooked me. 😉
